Windsor police, Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol and Weld Ambulance all responded to the accident which occurred at about 2:30 p.m. As of 4 p.m., a mile of the highway remained closed.
According to the state patrol, the driver of the 2000 Ford three-quarter ton pickup was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland on a helicopter called in from Denver. Margie Martinez, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said the Suzuki had Wyoming license plates.
The patrol said the pickup was east bound on the highway and hit the west bound Suzuki just west of Weld County Road 21, killing both the driver and a passenger in the front seat.
No names have been released.
