Greeley’s Neal Kingman posted his first double-double of his career, helping the University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball team to a 74-68 victory over Montana State Sunday at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.
The win puts UNC (7-3, 18-5) in sole possession of second place in the Big Sky Conference standings.
Kingman scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bears. The former Greeley West High School product scored six-straight points on an 8-0 for UNC with just over five minutes left that gave the Bears a 57-52 lead they would never relinquish.
UNC senior Will Figures led the Bears with 20 points. He was 10-of-10 from the free throw line. The Bears as a team were 29-of-33 from the line, a key to the Bears win.
The Bears were without starting forward Taylor Montgomery for the game with a knee injury suffered against Montana on Thursday while leading scorer Devon Beitzel and starting guard Yahosh Bonner spent most of the game in foul trouble.

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State University President Tony Frank has proposed hiring a part-time, interim vice president to increase the diversity among students on the Fort Collins campus.
Frank says there is a large gap in the number of Hispanic and white students attending college in Colorado.
A campus force recommended the cabinet-level position after last year’s retirement of the school’s director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity.
Frank says the position would be funded by cuts in other administrative areas.
A campuswide search for a vice president for diversity will start soon. Blanche Hughes, vice president for student affairs, will fill the position until then.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK – Rocky Mountain National Park plans to use federal stimulus money to replace part of the water system for a lodge once used for employee housing.
Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says the cost of the Onahu Lodge project hasn’t been determined yet.
Patterson says the lodge was deemed unsafe for occupants several years ago because of mold and unsafe plumbing issues. A new water system is needed to comply with state health regulations for potable water and the national fire safety code before the lodge can be used for housing again.
The plan includes a water storage tank outside wilderness areas.
The park is accepting public comment on the proposal through Feb. 16.
